Abstract:Objective: To summarize the characteristics and dermoscopic images of school-age children with trichotillomania. Methods: The data of 103 patients with trichotillomania in our hospital from June 2017 to June 2021 were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Results: Of 103 patients, 51 were male and 52 were female, with an average age of 10.20 ± 2.75 years. The hair loss were on the crown of the head  (48.5%), unilateral temporal (28.2%), bilateral temporal  (15.5%), frontal (20.4%), occipital (5.8%) and eyebrows (2.9%). Dermoscopic features included black dots (95.1%), broken hair (71.8%), flame hair 58 (56.3%) , blood spots (48.5%) , pigtail-like hair (35%), coiled hairs (27.2%),and spear-like hair (3.9%). Conclusion: The most common site of trichotillomania is the crown of the head and the common dermoscopic characteristics of school-age children with trichotillomania are black spot sign, broken hair, flame hair, blood spots, and pigtail-like hair.
