Protective effect of HLA-DRB1 allele on proliferative diabetic retinopathy

Abstract:Objective To study the correlation between proliferating diabetic retinopathy(PDR) and HLA-DRB1 allele,and to explore the protective factors of PDR formation.Methods A total of 156 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2 DM) were randomly collected from outpatients and hospitalized treatment.The T2 DM patients with a course of more than 10 years but non-developing PDR were included in DR group,and T2 DM patients with a course of less than 5 years but developing PDR were included in PDR group.HLA-DRB1 alleles of all patients were detected by microarray,and the influencing factors of PDR in T2 DM patients were explored by univariate analysis and Logistic regression analysis.Results The univariate analysis result showed that HLA-DRB1*03010101 and HLA-DRB1*090102 were correlated with PDR(P<0.05).HLA-DRB1 allele haplotype frequency analysis result showed that PDR accounted for 1.45% and DR accounted for12.31% in T2 DM patients with HLA-DRB1*03010101;among T2 DM patients with HLA-DRB1*090102,PDR accounted for 22.58% and DR accounted for 10.00%.The Logistic regression analysis result showed that HLA-DRB1*03010101 was a protective factor for PDR formation(OR=0.102,P<0.05),while HLA-DRB1*090102 was a risk factor for PDR formation(OR =3.278,P <0.05).Conclusion HLA-DRB1*03010101 is a protective factor for PDR in T2 DM patients,while HLA-DRB1*090102 is a risk factor for PDR formation in T2 DM patients.
