Clinical value of combined detection of serum PCT,IL-6 and endotoxin in the diagnosis of respiratory tract bacterial infection in the elderly

Objective To explore the clinical value of combined detection of serum procalcitonin(PCT),interleukin-6(IL-6) and endotoxin in the diagnosis of respiratory tract bacterial infection in the elderly.Methods A total of 240 elderly patients with respiratory tract infection admitted in our hospital from October 2019 to October 2020 were selected as the research objects,and the patients were divided into bacterial infection group and non-bacterial infection group by chest X-ray examination and laboratory bacteriological detection results,with 120 cases in each group;60 healthy physical examination persons who underwent routine physical examination in our hospital at the same period were selected as health group.The levels of serum PCT,IL-6 and endotoxin of research objects in the three groups were compared;the diagnostic results and efficacy of single and combined detection of serum PCT,IL-6 and endotoxin for respiratory tract bacterial infection in the elderly were analyzed.Results The levels of serum PCT,IL-6 and endotoxin in the bacterial infection group were significantly higher than those in the non-bacterial infection group and the healthy group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There were 112,113 and 107 patients diagnosed as bacterial infections by single detection of serum PCT,IL-6,and endotoxin,respectively,and 129 cases were confirmed by combined detection.The diagnostic sensitivity,accuracy and negative predictive value of combined detection of serum PCT,IL-6 and endotoxin for respiratory tract bacterial infection in the elderly were significantly higher than those of single detection(P<0.05).Conclusion The levels of serum PCT,IL-6 and endotoxin in elderly patients with respiratory tract bacterial infection change significantly,it can be effectively distinguished from non-bacterial infection,and the combined detection has higher sensitivity and accuracy,which is of great significance to guide the rational application of antibiotics.
