Analysis of Recurrence and Risk Factors of Urinary Tract Infection in Elderly Patients

Objective To investigate the recurrence and risk factors of urinary tract infection in elderly patients.Methods A total of 90 elderly patients with urinary tract infection in from January 2016 to December 2019 were selected and divided into recurrent group and non-recurrent group according to whether the patients had recurrence of urinary tract infection.The gender,age,body mass index,length of stay,invasive operation,antibiotic usage,antibiotic quantity,indwelling catheter time,diabetes history and coronary heart disease history were recorded and compared between the two groups.Results To follow up for 6 months 23 elderly patients with urinary tract infection had recurrent urinary tract infection,and the recurrent infection rate was 25.56%.The univariate analysis showed that the difference of the gender,age,invasive operation,diabetes history,length of stay,antibiotic usage,antibiotic quantity and indwelling catheter time of the elderly in the recurrent group and the non-recurrent group was statistically significant(P<0.05).Taking the recurrence of urinary tract infection as the dependent variable,the factors which were statistically significant in the univariate analysis were taken as independent variables.The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that gender,age,diabetes history,invasive operation,hospital stay,the number of antibiotics,and the time of indwelling catheter were all risk factors for the recurrence of urinary tract infection in elderly patients.Conclusion The risk factors for recurrence of urinary tract infections in elderly patients are mainly gender,age,diabetes history,invasive operation,hospitalization time,antibiotic quantity,and indwelling catheter time.The risk factors for the occurrence of urinary tract infection are clearly identified.Intervention for these factors can effectively reduce the incidence of recurrent urinary tract infections in elderly patients and promote the prognosis of patients.
