Investigation and analysis of the mental health of divers before and after the 84 m heliox dive training

Objective To investigate and analyze the mental health of divers before and after the 84 m heliox dive training.Methods Questionnaire surveys,including self-rating anxiety scale (SAS),self-rating depression scale (SDS) and symptom check list-90 (SCL-90) were conducted among the 30 trainees,15 of whom participated the actual underwater operation and the rest were standbys,both immediately before and after termination of the 84 m heliox dive training,and then analysis were made.Results For the practical diving team,when compared with those before the dive,the standard scores of SAS and SDS,and total scores,total average scores of SCL-90 and the number of positive items all decreased significantly (P ＜ 0.05 ),while for the standby dive team,total scores and total average scores of SCL-90,scores of interpersonal relationship,anxiety and psychogenic factors decreased significantly (P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusions Negative emotion related to the mental health of the practical divers and uncomfortable feeling experienced by the standby divers all alleviated,when a comparison was made between the data obtained at the end of the 84 m heliox dive training and those obtained before dive.
