| Abstract: | ICAb was detected by ABC enzyme-labelled method in 70 patients with lDDM, 84 with NIDDM and 14with autoimune diseases (AID). ICAb was found in l2 (17% ) IDDM patients, and its positive rate and titre were gradually declined with the duration of diabetes. The levels of fasting C-peptide in ICAb+IDDM patients were signifi-cantly lower than those in ICA-patients (P<0.05). The graft function in ICA+ recipients is easy to lose, 2 cases of NIDDM with positive lCA need insulin treatment. OGTT in 4 AID cases of ICA+ revealed normal, one case showed low insulin release. The results of the study indicated that ICA might be an important immunologic marker for identifying the individuals at risk of developing IDDM, classifying diabetes, selecting the suitable subjects for islet transplant and monitoring the fate of islet graft. |
