Abstract:[Objective]To explore the relationship between the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and radiosensitivity of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC). [Methods] PCNA expression in the tissues of 108 NPC patients was examined by PCNA antibody immunohistochemical staining by ABC assay before radiotherapy. The positive cells were counted under microscope. Proliferation index(PI) was also caleulated. According to PI, all patients were divided into high PCNA expression group(HPI with PI〉 25%) and low PCNA expression group(LPl, with PI≤25%). CT or MRI and pharyngorhinoscopy were performed respectively while the doses of radiotherapy were DT36GY and DT70GY. The tumor regression was observed. [Results] All 108 NPC tissue slices expressed PCNA. Among them, 52 cases were HPI and 56 cases were LPl. The tumor regression of HPI was higher than that of LPI. After radiotherapy, the residual of primary tumor of HPI was lower than that of LPI. There was statistical significance between them. [Conclusion]The expression of PCNA is significantly related with radiosensitivity of NPC, so it is an important index for the radiosensitivity of NPC.
