Long-term application of lamotrigine in the treatment of patients with epilepsy

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of long-term application of lamotrigine in the treatment of patients with epilepsy,as well as EEG changes and adverse reactions.Methods A total of 80 epilepsy patients who were treated in our hospital from January 2018 to June 2020 were selected and they were divided into two groups by random number table method,with 40 cases in each group.The control group was treat-ed with sodium valproate,and the observation group was treated with lamotrigine.The clinical efficacy,epileptic seizures,EEG changes and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 95.00%,which was higher than 77.50%in the control group(P<0.05);the adverse reaction rate in the observation group was 10.00%,which was lower than 32.50%in the control group(P<0.05);after treatment,the frequency of seizures in the observation group was less than that of the control group,and the dura-tion of seizures was shorter than that of the control group(P<0.05);the number of epileptiform discharges per 180 seconds and the number of in-volved leads per 180 seconds in the observation group were significantly less than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Long-term ap-plication of lamotrigine in the treatment of patients with epilepsy has significant effect,which can reduce seizures,improve EEG indicators,and has high safety,it is worthy of clinical application.
