Predictive value of serum superoxide dismutase level in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and cardiac insufficiency

Objective To investigate the predictive value of serum superoxide dismutase(SOD)level in type 2 diabetes(T2DM)patients with cadiac insufficiency.Methods 73 T2DM patients(T2DM group),81 T2DM combined with mild cardiac insufficiency(NYHA classⅠ-Ⅱ)(T2DMmild group)and 76 T2DM combined with severe cardiac insufficiency(NYHA classⅢ-Ⅳ)(T2DM-severe group)admitted to our hospital from March 2018 to December 2019 were selected as reseach subjects.4 groups of serum SOD,glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c),brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)were measured.The serum SOD,HbA1c,glucose,BNP and LVEF were compared among the four groups,and risk factors for diabetic patients with cardiac insufficiency were analyzed.Results The serum SOD level in T2DM group was significantly lower than that in control group(P<0.05).The SOD level in T2DM group was higher than that in mild T2DM group and severe T2DM group,and the SOD level in mild T2DM group was higher than that in severe T2DM group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Meanwhile,BNP in T2DM group was lower than that in mild T2DM group and severe T2DM group,and BNP in mild T2DM group was lower than that in severe T2DM group(P<0.05).The level of LVEF in T2DM group was higher than that in mild T2DM group and severe T2DM group,and that in mild T2DM group was higher than that in severe T2DM group(P<0.05).Serum SOD level was negatively correlated with the incidence of cardiac insufficiency in T2DM patients(P<0.05).Conclusion Serum SOD level of T2DM patients is significantly lower than which of healthy people,and if the level of SOD is lower,the possibility of cardiac insufficiency in elderly patients with T2DM is greater,and the severity may be higher.
