Chronic daily headache in a paediatric headache centre

Abstract:The prevalence and theclinical features of chronic dailyheadache (CDH) were studied in968 children and adolescentsobserved during a period of oneyear in the Headache Centre of theAnna Meyer Paediatric Hospital ofFlorence. Nine hundred and fortyfourpatients (97.52%) had primaryheadache according to ICHD-II, 24subjects had secondary headacheand 56 patients had CDH (5.93%of primary headaches). The meanage of subjects with CDH washigher than general (13.5 vs. 11.5years), with a female preponderance(69.6% vs. 30.4%). Accordingto the ICHD-II, headaches wereclassified as chronic migraine in 10patients (1.5.2 ICHD-II), chronictension-type headache in 36 (2.3ICHD-II), new daily persistentheadache in 8 (4.8 ICHD-II) and 2patients reported mixed pattern(chronic migraine+chronic tensiontype headache). Medicationoveruse was not implicated in ourpatients.
