Laparoscopic operation for mature ovarian cystic teratoma in infant

Objective: To investigate the operative skill,safety and clinical effect of laparoscopic operation for mature ovarian cystic teratoma in infant. Methods:The clinical data of 11 infants who suffered from mature ovarian cystic teratoma and underwent laparoscopic operation were retrospectively analyzed.Abdominal cavity was lavaged during operation to avoid postoperative peritoneal infection and adhesion. Results:All laparoscopic operations were successfully performed,without conversion to laparotomy or short-term complications,such as peritonitis,incision infection or intraperitoneal adhesion.Infants were all cured and discharged.During the follow-up of 10 months and 7 years,no long-term complications occurred,such as recurrence or secondary granuloma.The growth and development was not different from normal child. Conclusions:Laparoscopic operation for mature ovarian cystic teratoma in infant is safe,effective,curative,mini-invasive with little blood loss,quick recovery and satisfactory cosmetic result,and without obvious short-term or long-term complications.This procedure could be applied and generalized for treatment of mature ovarian cystic teratoma in infant.
