Effect of povidone iodine on prevention of infection in cesarean section due to failure of vaginal delivery

Objective To explore the effect of povidone iodine disinfection of vagina,wash of uterine cavity and abdominal incision on prevention of infection in cesarean section due to failure of vaginal delivery.Methods From January 2017 to December 2018,160 cases of cesarean section due to failure of vaginal delivery in our hospital were selected,who were randomly divided into study group and control group,with 80 cases in each group.The study group was given povidone iodine to scrub vagina,wash uterine cavity and abdominal incision.The control group was given 0.9%sodium chloride solution to scrub vagina,wash uterine cavity and abdominal incision.The infection rates of uterus and abdominal incision were compared between the two groups.Results The infection rate of uterus in the study group was 3.75%,lower than 16.25%in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The infection rate of abdominal incision in the study group was 2.5%,lower than 12.5%in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Povidone iodine disinfection of vagina,wash of uterine cavity and abdominal incision can significantly reduce the infection rates of uterus and abdominal incision in cesarean section patients due to failure of vaginal delivery,which is beneficial to clinical application.
