Abstract:We have used immunologic and histologic techniques to analyze the rejection of heterotopic murine cardiac allografts. These studies were designed to test the hypothesis that lymph-node-like mechanisms of lymphocyte extravasation develop in immediately vascularized organ allografts during the process of rejection. The experimental results suggest that lymph-node-like mechanisms are not involved, and that an unexpected pattern of lymphocyte infiltration develops in these allografts.
