Effect of preoperative biliary drainage on patients underwent Pancreaticoduodenectomy

Objective To explore the effect of preoperative biliary drainage(PBD) on patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD).Methods Retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 136 patients underwent PD from 2004 to 2010.According to whether they were underwent PBD,the patients were divided into 2 groups: PBD group,non PBD group.The bilirubin level,operating time,blood loss,postoperative complications were compared and analyzed.Results In PBD group,the mean bilirubin level was significantly reduced after PBD(P < 0.05).There has no significant difference in the mean bilirubin level,operating time,blood loss,postoperative complications between the 2 groups(P > 0.05).The total postoperative complications rate also has no significant difference between the 2 groups(P > 0.05).Conclusion Obstructive jaundice is one of the risk factors of PD.Definite the curative effect of PBD,but does not distinctly influence the postoperative complication rate and improve the prognosis.Patients undergo operations earlier seem to be with more significances.
