Abstract:Objective To study the contents of S-100b and myelin basic protein(MBP) in CSF of patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome, and explore the role in the pathogenesis of GBS and their relation to disease severity. Methods The contents of S-100b and MBP in CSF were measured by a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 32 patients with different clinical classification of GBS(GBS group),and 30 patients with other neurological diseases(OND group) and 29 normal healthy controls(NC group). Results The contents of S-100b and MBP increased in CSF of GBS group, and were proportional to the degree of condition(P<0.05),were higher than that in OND group and NC group(P<0.05),but there was no statistically significant difference between OND group and NC group(P>0.05).Conclusion The contents of S-100b and MBP in CSF of patients with GBS increased significantly, with more serious,S-100b and MBP content increased higher.S-100b promoted the inflammation development in the course of GBS,MBP responded to myelin damage, they played an important role in the pathogenesis of GBS.
Keywords:Guillain-Barre syndrome(GBS)  S-100b  Myelin basic protein(MBP)
