| Abstract: | The method of intracellular perfusion (or dialysis) has been used to replace the cytoplasm of vertebrate and invertebrate neurones (diameter > 10 μm) with saline whilst maintaining the integrity of the cell membrane. With this technique it has been possible to study the fast kinetics of ionic and gating currents and to record ionic currents in patches (10–30 μm2) of cell membrane. The patch recordings were characterized by high signal:noise ratios. |
