Comparative study of MRI and CT imaging in the diagnosis of multiple cerebral infarction in the elderly

Abstract:Objective To compare and analyze the use of MRI and CT imaging in the clinical diagnosis of elderly patients with multiple cerebral infarction. Methods A total of 114 elderly patients with multiple cerebral infarctions who visited our hospital between February 2018 and December 2019 were examined by MRI and CT imaging, and the diagnostic results of the two techniques were comparatively analyzed in patients with different onset times and different infarct locations. Results In patients with disease duration < 24 h and disease duration 24~72 h, the detection rates were 93.6% vs 94.7% by MRI technique and 70.2% vs 71.1% by CT technique, respectively, with a significant difference(P<0.05), whereas in patients with disease duration > 72 h, the detection rates were not significantly different between the two protocols(P>0.05). Also, in patients with disease duration > 72 h, the overall detection rate by MRI technique was 95.6%, which was also higher than that by CT(77.2 Differences(P<0.05). In 114 elderly patients with multiple cerebral infarcts, 371 infarct lesions were detected by MRI technique, 93.9% compared with 296 lesions detected by CT, 74.9%, with a significant difference(P<0.05) between the two groups, and MRI showed a higher, significant difference(P<0.05) in the detection of lesions in the basal ganglia, parietal lobe, brainstem, frontal lobe, and thalamus than CT. Conclusion compared with CT imaging protocol, the application of MRI technique in the early diagnosis of elderly patients with multiple cerebral infarcts is more prominent, which not only can improve the disease detection rate, but also can accurately detect the micro infarct lesions in different locations,and is worth promoting.
