Early Activity in Preventing Delirium in Patients With Mechanical Ventilation in ICU

Objective To explore the role of early activity in preventing delirium in patients with mechanical ventilation in intensive care unit.Methods A total of 62 patients with mechanical ventilation in intensive care unit were selected from April 2017 to April 2019 in our hospital.They were divided into two groups according to random number table method.31 patients in the control group were given routine nursing,and 31 patients in the study group were given early activity.The occurrence of delirium,delirium subtype,delirium occurrence time,delirium duration,ventilation time,ICU hospitalization time,hospitalization expenses and sleep quality were compared between the two groups.Results The incidence of delirium in the study group was 22.58%,lower than 48.39%in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the proportion of delirium mixed type,increased activity type and decreased activity type between the study group and the control group(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in the occurrence time of delirium between the study group and the control group(P>0.05).The duration of delirium,ventilation time and ICU hospitalization time in the study group were shorter than those in the control group,and the hospitalization expenses were less than those in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the scores of Sleep Quality Measurement Scale between the two groups before intervention(P>0.05).After intervention,the scores of Sleep Quality Measurement Scale in the two groups were significantly lower than those before intervention,and the scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Early activity on the basis of routine nursing can reduce the incidence of delirium in patients with mechanical ventilation in intensive care unit,shorten the duration of delirium,ventilation time,ICU hospitalization time,improve patients'sleep quality and reduce hospitalization costs.
