Abstract: | Magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the living brain is described. It is based on the same physics as magnetic resonance imaging, but instead of images based on the signal from tissue water, it measures specific compounds in the brain, currently numbering some two dozen. Being almost entirely non-invasive, it is well-suited for longitudinal and human studies of both normal function and disease processes. |
