| Abstract: | Experimental conditions for the synthesis of radioactive 11-ketotestosterone and 11β-hydroxytestosterone from cortisol of high specific activity are described. For the synthesis of 11-ketotestosterone, cortisol is first oxidized to cortisone with 0.1% aqueous chromic acid. The use of hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases for reduction of intermediates in the reaction sequence from C21 to C19 steroid provides consistently high yields of product. |
