New progress in epidemiology of scrub typhus

Scrub typhus is an acute natural infectious disease caused by rickettsia tsutsugamushi. It is a statutory reporting infectious disease. Medical institutions are required to report tsutsugamushi cases to the national surveillance system within 24 hours once they are confirmed. Scrub typhus may be one of the world's most prevalent, neglected and serious but easily treatable febrile diseases, according to the World Health Organization. According to the CDC epidemic report, with the continuous expansion of afforestation projects in China, the incidence of scrub typhus is on the rise, new epidemic areas are expanding, and local outbreaks occur occasionally. This article mainly introduces the characteristics, process and current situation of tsutsugamushi epidemic at home and abroad. These results will help researchers, healthcare providers and medical leaders to develop new research projects and diagnose tsutsugamushi, and provide references for further epidemiological studies and scrub typhus prevention and treatment.
