Epidemiological survey of metabolic syndrome and its related factors in elder people in Changshan Area

Objective To analyze the epidemiological features of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its related factors in elder people in Changshan area,and to provide the basis for the future clinical work.Methods The data of elder 4782 people during 2007～2009 years were reviewed.The height,weight,TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,FPG,2hPG,SBP,and DBP were checked or examined by health professionals.The data were compared between people with and without MS,and the related factors to MS were analyzed by logistic regression analysis.Results The incidence of MS was 22.10% (1057/4782) in this area.There was no significant difference in the incidence of MS in gender,education level,original ethnical group,residential years in this area.While the incidences of MS was obviously higher in people who were obse,with hypertension,hyperglycemia,and hyperlipidemia (P<0.05).Height,weight,TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,FPG,2hPG,SBP,and DBP all contributed to the development MA and significantly different between people with and without MS (P<0.05).WC,SBP,DBP,TG,HDL-C,FPG,and 2hPG were independent risk factors of MS by logistic regression analysis(P<0.05).Conclusion The incidence of MS is high in this area.We should take some measures based on the related risk factors to lower the incidences of MS.
