Clinical Observation on the Efficacy of Nerve Growth Factor for the Treatment of Patients with Chronic Alcoholic Peripheral Neuropathy

Objective] To explore the clinical efficacy of nerve growth factor for the treatment of patients with chro- nic alcoholic peripheral neuropathy（CAPN）. Methods]Totally 56 CAPN patients were divided into two groups. The treatment group（ n = 32） was given nerve growth factor 4ml（1000u） by intramuscular injection once a day. The control group（ n = 24） was given VitB1 0. 1g once a day by intramuscular injection. Both groups were given Danshen infusion and physical therapy. CantataTM electromyography machine was used in all patients. The symptoms, signs, motor nerve conduction velocity（MNCV） and sensory nerve conduction velocity（SNCV） of median nerve and common peroneal nerve were compared between two groups. Resultsl There were significant differences in the pain, numbness, formication and ataxia symptoms of the extremities, tendon reflexes and superficial sensation of treatment group between before and after therapy（ P 〈0.05）, but there was no significant difference between before and after therapy in control group（ P 〉0. 05）. MNCV and SNCV in treatment group after therapy were obviously higher than those before therapy（ P 〈0.05）, but there was no significant difference between control group or control group before and after therapy（ P 〉0.05）. Conclusion]Nerve growth factor for the treatment of CAPN patients has satisfactory effect, so it is worthy of clinical promotion and application,
