Abstract:The authors present three cases of fungal sinusitis. Fungal sinusitis is a relatively rare disease that affects more commonly immunosuppressed and diabetic individuals. The radiographic signs are non-specific. Nevertheless, some CT findings are highly suspicious: unilateral lesions of one or more sinuses; nodular mucoperiosteal thickening, and, or focal areas of bone destruction; very dense, intrasinus concretions. Air-fluid levels are very uncommon, and when present suggest a nonfungal bacterial infection. In most cases, a combination of these findings suggests fungal disease. The clinical hallmark is chronic sinusitis that fails to respond to antibiotic therapy.
