Abstract:Objective To comprehend the condition of anemia among HIV/AIDS patients and evaluate its role in assessing the progression of HIV/AIDS. Methods Eighty six HIV/AIDS patients were detected for the index of immunological function (CD4^+ T cell) and the whole blood cell count and divided into three groups (A, B, C) according to the diagnostic standard of US Center of Disease Control and Prevention. The relationship between the hemoglobin (HGB) and CD4^+ T was analyzed statistically. Results There were 32 cases of anemia in 86 HIV/AIDS patients. The incidence of anemia was 61.5% in group A, 21.8% in group B and 6.7% in group C. The incidence of anemia was significantly different among the three groups (P 〈 0.01 ) . The level of HGB in 32 cases of anemia was notably different among the three groups (P 〈 0.01 ). There was no statistic significance of anemia status among different groups with CD4+ count ( P 〉 0.05). Conclusion The incidence and degree of anemia parallel with the progression of HIV/AIDS. HGB decreases with the descending of immunological function. The level of anemia plays an important role in assessing progression of HIV/AIDS.
