Abstract:The overwhelming advantage of books like these here reviewed is that they are written by experts who have read, winnowed, digested and arranged the material that has been published in the intervals between editions. True enough, personal prejudices may play a greater part in their selection than would be the case with abstracts, but that is of little importance to the majority of readers whose need is for guidance in selecting from the great mass of medical literature. And again, experts usually have a more or less personal knowledge of many of the workers in their own field, so that they are likely to have a clear idea as to the probable value of a man's work.
