Abstract: | In rats bearing a Walker 256 carcinoma the ability of polyribosomal preparations from the gastrocnemius to incorporate 3H-lysine into protein under in vitro conditions was only 36% of the normal level whereas soleus polyribosomes from these animals still retained 84% of their normal activity. The alteration in activity of gastrocnemius polyribosomes in tumour-bearing rats was not accompanied by any alteration in the distribution pattern of ribosomal aggregates as evidenced by density gradient sedimentation analysis. |
