Effects of Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy on Voice Function of Patients after Microscopy Supported Laryngoscope Resection of Vocal Cord Lesions

Objective To study the effects of the Lessac-Madsen resonant voice therapy(LMRVT)on voice function training for patients after vocal cord lesion resection.Methods A total of 64 patients with benign hyperplasia of the vocal cords and 1 month after receiving laryngeal microsurgery were randomly divided into the LMRVT treatment group(32 cases)and the only surgery group(32 cases).The LMRVT group received 2-month period resonant voice therapy,the only surgery group did not receive any speech training intervention.In both groups,vocal acoustic parameters,core vowel formants F1 and F2,auditory perception assessment(GRBAS)and voice handicap index(VHI)were collected respectively in 1 month and 3 months after surgery for comparison within the group.In addition,32 age and gender matched normal people were recruited as control group,and the aforementioned parameters were compared between groups.Results Comparison within the group①In the LMRVT treatment group,the acoustic parameters such as jitter,shimmer,NHR,MPT,the core vowel formants parameters F1 of/a/,F2 of/i/,F2 of/u/,as well as the total hoarseness G and VHI scores were significantly improved(P<0.05)in the end of the course of treatment.②In the only surgery group,only jitter,total hoarseness G and VHI scores were significantly improved(P<0.05)in 3 months than those in 1 month.Comparison between groups①Compared with the normal control group,post treatment parameters in LMRVT group,except for MPT,the total hoarseness G and VHI scores were significantly different(P<0.05),the rest important acoustic parameters were basically not different from the normal group.②For the surgery-only group,parameters that collected 3 months after surgery,such as jitter,shimmer,MPT,F1 of/a/,F1 of/i/,F2 of/i/,total hoarseness G and VHI scores were significantly different from the control group(P<0.05).③Compared with the LMRVT group after treatment,the parameters reflecting the resonance function in 3 months after surgery in the only surgery group,such as F1 of/a/,F1 of/i/,and F2 of/i/,were still significantly different(P<0.05).Conclusion LMRVT can effectively improve the patient's resonance function,voice clarity,pronunciation quality,and obtain more stable voice function improvement than surgery alone.It is worth promoting and applying in the clinical rehabilitation of voice after vocal cord lesion resection.
