Effect of metoprolol in treatment of rheumatic heart disease patients with chronic heart failure

Objective To investigate the effect of metoprolol on blood pressure and cardiac function in rheumatic heart disease patients with chronic heart failure. Methods From March 2016 to April 2018, 70 rheumatic heart disease patients with chronic heart failure were randomly divided into a control group (n=35) and a trial group (n=35). The control group was treated with the routine treatment, and the trial group was treated with metoprolol on the basis of the control group. The clinical efficacy, blood pressure level and cardiac function were investigated and compared between two groups. Results The total effective rate of the control group was 65.71%, which was lower than that of the trial group (94.29%), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After the treatment, the average LADD (31.23±6.28) mm, LVEDD (43.74±6.91) mm, and LVESD (30.15±6.42) mm in the trial group were lower than those in the control group , but LVEF in the trial group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After the treatment, in the trial group, the average systolic blood pressure was (108.52±9.60) mmHg, and the diastolic blood pressure was (70.12±9.26) mmHg, which were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Metoprolol in the treatment of rheumatic heart disease patients with chronic heart failure can improve the clinical efficacy, reduce the blood pressure, and improve cardiac function of them.
