Investigation and analysis of an outbreak of influenza in a school

Objective To carry out an epidemiological investigation and an etiological examination of an influenza outbreak on campus, so as to make a clear diagnosis and effectively prevent and control the influenza epidemic situation. Methods Through the epidemiological investigation, the search cases were verified, the epidemic situation characteristics were analyzed, the pharynx swab samples were collected, and the virus nucleic acid was detected by fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR. Results A total of 63 influenza-like cases were reported, and the incidence rate was 1.53%. The 63 cases were distributed in 10 classes, of which 14 cases were the most in class 1 (9), with obvious aggregation. The virus nucleic acid test of throat swab samples collected from 11 cases showed that 8 samples were positive for B-Victoria influenza virus, 2 samples were positive for H3 influenza virus, and 1 was negative. Conclusion This outbreak is caused by influenza virus infection. Improving students' awareness of disease prevention and strengthening the prevention and control measures for infectious diseases in schools can effectively control the outbreak of influenza.
