Abstract: | BACKGROUND, AIMS: The present case report describes the clinical application of autotransplantation using furcation involved roots. METHOD: After initial therapy, root resection was performed upon the patient's molar teeth with furcation involvement in the mandible. 2 distal roots of the molar teeth were autotransplanted as abutments to replace missing premolar and molar teeth in the mandible. RESULTS: On re-examination, 1 year after the transplantation, these roots showed no signs of periodontal or technical complications. The results suggest the potential use of autotransplantation techniques using furcation involved roots in reconstructive therapy. This may be a new approach in periodontal therapy. |
