Abstract: | Changes in the plasma lipoprotein spectrum were studied in patients with severe mechanical trauma. These changes were shown to be associated with the severity of injury and with the age of patients. The steady-state reduction in the plasma concentrations of cholesterol in patients aged under 55 years who have a serious mechanical trauma may be considered to be a poor predictor. In patients above 55 years, the severity of their condition may be judged from the changes in the concentration of high density lipoproteins: the positive changes in this parameter are indicative of a good clinical outcome. |
