Effect of APN shift arrangement on nurses'physical and mental health

Objective To investigate the effects of APN shift arrangement on physical and mental health of nurses working in department of neurology.Methods Without any change of personnel,we adopted APN shift arrangement mode to arrange nurses′ shifts.We also applied Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS) to evaluate the anxiety level of nurses before application of APN,at three months and six months after application of APN.Results With conventional shift arrangement,nurses had to work(1.09±0.33) hours overtime in average to finish their duty every day on weekdays and(0.50±0.24) hour overtime on weekends.Conversely,nurses didn′t have to work extra hours after application of APN.The SAS scores of nurses before the implementation of APN,after three months and six months of application had significant differences(P<0.01).Conclusion APN shift arrangement improves nurses′ working efficiency and contributes to the relief of nurses′ anxiety.
