A critical evaluation of the cadmium test

Summary The authors have carried out 2017 cadmium tests, according toWuhrmann andWunderly, on 827 patients suffering from various internal diseases. A great number of patients suffering from serious diseases showed negative cadmium tets. There was no correlation between the tests and body temperature, ESR or leucocyte count. In a group of 210 patients the test was compared with the results of paper electrophoroseis. There was no indication that an increase of the and/or the -globulin proteins in combination with normal or decresed albumin content and a normal or decreased -globulin content results in a positive cadmium reaction. A comparison between the thymol flocculation test and the cadmium test on 298 patients revealed no correlation between the two tests.On a basis of the investigations which have been carried out it must be concluded that both as a screening test and as a test of dysproteinemia the cadmium test is of little or no value.

Zusammenfassung Bei 827 Patienten mit verschiedenen inneren Krankheiten wurde der Kadmium-Test nachWuhrmann undWunderly durchgeführt. Eine große Zahl von Patienten mit ernsten Krankheitzuständen zeigte einen negativen Kadmium-Test. Zwischen dem Kadmium-Test und der Körpertemperatur, der Blutkörperchensenkung und der Leukozytenzahl bestand keine Korrelation. Bei einer Gruppe von 210 Patienten wurden Kadmium-Test und Papierelektrophorese verglichen. Es ergab sich kein Anhalt für einen positiven Kadmium-Test durch -und/oder -Hyperglobulinämie in Verbindung mit Normooder Hypalbuminämie und normalem oder verminderte m-Globulin. Bei 298 Patienten bestand keine Korrelation zwischen Thymol-Flockungs-Test und Kadmium-Test. Auf Grund der Untersuchungen wird dem Kadmium-Test als Suchreaktion und als Dysproteinämie-Reaktion nur ein geringer oder fehlender Wert beigemessen.
