Body positioning of patients after appendicectomy with different types of anesthesia

Objective To explore a comfortable body position for patients after appendicectomy.Methods 180 postoperative patients were randomly assigned to group with general anesthesia,group with epidural anesthesia,or group with combined spinal and epidural anesthesia accroding to types of anesthesia,60 patients for each group.The three group were then subdivided into study group ( 30patients ) and control group ( 30 patients ).The study group received semi-supine positioning right after the procedure,whereas the control group semi-recumbent positioning six hours after supine positioning without a pillow.The degree of comfort for positioning and and the rate of complications were observed.Results Vital signs were stable in all the patients.The incidence rates of headache,nausea,and vomiting were lower,with no significant difference among the three groups.The degree of discomfort for positioning was significantly higher in he control group than in the study group ( P ＜ 0.001 ).Conclusions In patients undergoing appendectomy,the postoperative synptoms of headache,nausea,and vomiting are not associated with types of anesthesia.Conventional supine positioning needs to be improved.Semi-supine is a more comfortable position for those patient.
