Observation on the clinical effect of Bushen Jiangu decoction on elderly patients with osteoporotic compression fractures after vertebroplasty

Objective To observe the effect of Bushen Jiangu decoction in the treatment of elderly patients with osteoporotic compression fractures(OVCF) after vertebroplasty,and its effect on bone mineral density and lumbar function.Methods Fifty-six OVCF patients who underwent vertebroplasty in Fangshan Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 1,2019 to December 31,2019 were selected and divided into observation group and control group by the random number table method,with 28 cases in each group.Both groups were given routine treatment after operation.At the same time,the observation group was given Bushen Jiangu decoction 3 days after operation for 3 months.At 3 months after operation,the curative effect was evaluated and the bone mineral density of patients was measured.Visual analogue scale(VAS) was used to evaluate the degree of pain and Japanese Orthopedic Association Low Back Pain Assessment(JOA) was used to evaluate the lumbar function before operation,1 month and 3 months after operation.Six months after discharge,the patients were followed up by telephone for recurrence.All data were analyzed by SPSS 22.0 software.Results The effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).The bone mineral density of the observation group increased significantly after treatment,compared with before treatment and with the control group after treatment(P<0.05).At 1 month after operation,VAS score of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).At 3 months after operation,JOA score of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Six months after discharge,only one patient in the control group had slight pain in the waist.Conclusion After vertebroplasty,Bushen Jiangu decoction has a significant clinical effect on elderly patients with OVCF,which can increase the bone mineral density of patients,relieve pain,and improve lumbar spine function,which has clinical application significance.
