Association of central aortic augmentation index with insulin resistance in patients with hypertension

Objective To study the relationship between central aortic augmentation index(AIx) and insulin resistance (IR) in patients with hypertension.Methods Seventy-six patients with hypertension were enrolled in the study. Their AIx and fasting plasma glucose (FPG), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),fasting insulin (FINS), homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) were determined. According to the AIx, all the cases were categorized into two groups. The correlation between AIx and other parameters were analyzed.Results IR increased gradually with the increasing of the AIx. There was a positive correlation between the AIx and HOMA-IR, TC, TG, LDL-C. Conclusion In patients with Hypertension, the AIx serves as a indicator for the evaluation of IR.
