Abstract:Chickens immunised with chick embryo fibroblasts infected with attenuated Marek's disease virus or with the herpesvirus of turkeys and inactivated with glutaraldehyde were not protected against the lethal effects of inoculation with the Marek's disease-derived tumour transplant, JMV, although such immunisation protected against experimentally induced Marek's disease. It is concluded that there may be virus-coded antigenic determinants that are peculiar to oncogenic Marek's disease viruses and lacking from the non-oncogenic variants.
