Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical significance of early combined determination of various biomarkers in the evaluation of spinal cord injury.Methods Twenty two cases of spinal cord injury diagnosed and treated from January 2017 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed and the Frankel grade at admission and 6 months after surgery was compared.Among them,11 cases with Frankel grade improvement of 1 or more grades were defined as group B,11 cases without Frankel grade change as group C,and 20 cases of health examination included in the same period were regarded as group A.The serum levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),calcium binding protein(S100β)and neuron-specific enolase(NSE)were compared among the three groups.Results The GFAP,S100β,and NSE levels of group B and group C were higher than those of group A at each time point,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).GFAP in group B reached a peak on day 2 of admission and then showed a downward trend;GFAP in group C reached a peak on day 1 of admission and then showed a downward trend;NSE in group B reached a peak on day 3 of admission and then showed a downward trend.The NSE in group C reached a peak on the 2 nd day of admission and then showed a downward trend;both groups B and C reached a peak on the 3 rd day of admission,and then showed a downward trend.The levels of GFAP,NSE and S100βin group C were higher than those in group B at the same time,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The levels of GFAP,S 100(3 and NSE at admission in group B and C were negatively correlated with the scores of spinal nerve sensory function and motor function(P<0.05).Conclusion Early combined detection of GFAP,S100βand NSE levels in serum can diagnose spinal cord injury and assess the severity of the injury.It has important clinical value for clinical evaluation of the prognosis of spinal cord injury.
