Expression and significance of E -cadherin and CD44V6 in colorectal carcinoma

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of E-cadherin(E-cad),CD44_(V6)in colorectal carcinoma.Methods E-cad and CD44_(V6)were detected by streptavidin-biotin immunohistochemical methods in 52 cases of colorectal cancer tissue.Results The high expression rates of E-cad were 59.6% and CD44_(V6) were 43.8% in colorectal carcinoma tissue.Significant correlation existed among the abnormal expression of E-cad and CD44_(V6),the depth of tumor invasion,lymphnode metastasis,and Dukes stages(P<0.05).Furthermore,the abnormal expression of CD44_(V6) was closely associated with the grade of differentiation(P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between the expression of E-cad and CD44_(V6);The 5 years survival rate of patients with the high expression of E-cad was 65.6%,those with the low expression was 28.8%,while there was a significant different with them(P>0.05).Conclusion The expression of E-cad and CD44_(V6) were closely associated with metastasis and development of the colorectal carcinoma.Detection of the expression of E-cad and CD44_(V6) protein in colorectal cancer might served as important prognostic predictors.
