Abstract:Fluorescein Angiography (FA) and Indocyanine-Green Angiography (ICGA) are well established diagnostic techniques for documenting the retinal and choroidal vasculature,respectively,in both normal and pathological conditions of the fundus. While standard fundus cameras use film for recording the images,digital systems use internal hard disks and optical disks(CDs) for the recording and storage of the acquired images. A scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) uses digital imaging and acquisition, but differs greatly from the digital imaging systems which are added to fundus cameras in their illumination source and optical properties.Laser scanning systems,in particular confocal laser scanning systems,have important advantages as compared to conventional photographic systems,mainly in image resolution and contrast and in three-dimensional imaging. This article represents the angiographic imaging capabilities of an SLO-the HRA-in several entities,both in FA and ICGA.
