Reading and analysis on management guidelines for patients with thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer published in 2009 by American Thyroid Association

Recently, the American Thyroid Association published the third revision of Management Guidelines for Patients with Thyroid Nodules and Differentiated Thyroid Cancer, and created 80 evidencebased recommendations. For thyroid nodules, the guideline emphasized the importance of fine needle aspiration cytology for differential diagnosis between benign and malignant nodules. For thyroid carcinoma surgery and lymph node dissection, the guideline puts forward specific plans. For 131I therapy indications, its whole procedure, side effects, 131I scan in combination with Tg measurement, etc, the guideline listed detailed recommendations. Besides, the guideline also proposed a new three-level risk judgement criterion.
