Abstract:
Keywords:The new adult resuscitation guidelines, published by the European Resuscitation Council in late 2005, have important changes that affect the practice of resuscitation.    Chest compressions must be effective, performed without undue interruption and at the correct rate.    Ventilation is less important than effective chest compressions in non-asphyxial cardiac arrest.    Defibrillation must be timely where indicated.    A period of effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation, prior to defibrillation, may improve the chance of successful defibrillation in some circumstances.
