Prevalence of tooth-root anomaly of maxillary central incisors in Yan'an healthy young adults

Objective To study the prevalence of hypoplasia of tooth root in maxillary central incisors in healthy young adults in Yan'an. Methods 174 subjects(male 69, female 105), were chosen from the patients in Department of Orthodontics, Yan'an University Affiliated Hospital. Lateral cephalograms of each patient were taken by the same operator. Visual evaluation of the apical root morphology of the maxillary central incisors and crown to root ratio in panoramic radiographs were analyzed and measured. Results In study of 174 Yan'an healthy young adults for hypoplasia of tooth root (HTR), the prevalence of upper incisors was 10.9%. Gender difference in the prevalence was significant with females more sensitively effected. The prevalence of shorter roots, blunt single upper incisors was 4.0%. Gender difference was not significant. The in bilateral upper incisors was 9.2%. Gender difference was not significant. Conclusions There are some regional characteristics on abnormal morphology of root in maxillary central incisors in Yan'an healthy young adults.
