Significance and methodology of assessment of human oocytes

Assessment of development potential of human oocytes may improve the overall outcome of human assisted reproduction (ART).Therefore,it is regarded as one of the most crucial procedures in ART treatment.The purpose of this paper is to summarize the significance of morphological features of oocytes.The main investigated morphological structures include oocyte-corona-cumulus complex,meiotic spindle,zona pellucida,vacuoles or refractile bodies,polar body,oocyte shape,cytoplasm granulation,perivitelline space,et al.The different conclusions drawn from these literatures suggest that the morphological observations of human oocytes and the predictive value of the evaluation indicators require further research and cooperation to confirm.
