Endoscopic Ossiculoplasty for Conductive Hearing Loss with Intact Tympanic Membrane:A Report of 77 Cases

Objective To report clinical manifestations,audiological characteristics and endoscopic treatment outcomes of 77 cases(82 ears)of conductive deafness with intact tympanic membrane.Methods Clinical data of 77 patients(82 ears)with conductive deafness and intact tympanic membrane admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University and treated with endoscopic ossiculoplasty from February 2016 to February 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.Medical history,clinical manifestations,audiological assessment,intraoperative findings and hearing reconstruction outcomes were summarized and analyzed.Result Etiologies included congenital middle ear malformations(32 ears),absence of oval window(6 ears),otosclerosis(28 ears),congenital cholesteatoma(6 ears),and traumatic ossicular disruption(10 ears).A variety of grafts were used for reconstruction of the ossicular chain.No serious complications such as facial paralysis were observed after the operation.Both short and long term postoperative audiological results showed significant improvement compared with the preoperative data regardless of whether the stapes footplate was fixed.Conclusion Conductive hearing loss with intact tympanic membrane can involve variable etiologies,but long-term outcomes of endoscopic treatment are satisfactory and consistent,especially in patients with mobile stapes.
