OBSERVATION ON EFFICACY OF LOW INTENSITY ULTRAVIOLET RAY IN SURFACE DISINFECTION
Abstract:The efficacy of ultraviolet irradiation with lamps of 21μW/cm~2, 57μW/cm~2 and 72 μW/cm~2 in intensity in disinfection of glass surface contaminated artificiallyby bacteria was studied in laboratory. The results indicated that ultraviolet lamp of 57 and 72 μW/cm~2 in intensity could kill more than 99.9% Staphylococcus albus on samples placed 1 m apart after irradiation for 15 min, and more than 99.9% spores of Bacillus subtilis var. niger after irradiation for 150 min. The ultraviolet lamp of 21 μW/cm~2 in intensity could not give above result even if the irradiation time was 1.6 times prolonged. It is considered that selection of 70 μW/cm~2 in some hospitals as the minimal intensity requirement for ultraviolet lamp used for disinfection is suitable.
