Abstract: | Gossypol (I) and its derivatives gossylic nitrile-1,1'-diacetate (II), gossylic iminolactone (III) and gossylic lactone (IV) inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 in vitro in the order III greater than I greater than II,IV, indicating that derivatives of gossypol can retain antiviral activities. All of the derivatives are less cytotoxic than gossypol. |
