Abstract:AIMS To study the superinfection of HBV and HCV and their mutual relation in patients with hepatitis B.METHODS Serum samples from 767 patients with hepatitis B were tested for HBV and HCV markers by ELISA. Sera from some patients doubtfully infected with HCV were detected for HCV-RNA by PCR technique.RESULTS The infective rate of HCV in 767 patients was 4.82%, and there were significant differences in different types of patients with hepatitis B(P<0.01), the incidence of fulminant hepatitis (FH) in the group of HBV and HCV superinfection was obviously higher than that in group of HBV infection only (F<0. 01). The positive rate of HBsAg in group of superinfection of HBV and HCV was significantly lower than that in group of single HBV infection ( P < 0. 05), and the positive rate of HCV-RNA in superinfection group was significantly lower than that in single HCV infection group (P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS The superinfection of HBV and HCV is closely associated with the attack, deteriortion of symptoms and the oc-curence of fulminant hepatitis. HCV could inhibit and stop the carry state of HBsAg, but it is far more important that HCV could deteriorate the symptoms. HBV also inhibit replication of HCV.
