Acute Encephalopathy with Necrosis of Bilateral Thalami: Clinical Aspects

An unusual type of acute encephalopathy is prevalent among Japanese children. The disorder is characterized by the bilateral symmetrical, edematous and necrotic brain lesions. Clinical and pathological evidence indicates that the encephalopathy is a novel entity. Its pathomechanism remains to be solved.
